This moves the hall along it’s planned path toward becoming a green facility and helps the volunteer staff more easily do it’s job. The sorters have a garbage section, refundables section and paper section. The board of directors is very appreciative to RRFB for assisting in the purchase of above. Thanks also to Councillor Lisa Ward who made “The Hall” aware that there is a program available.

The Resource Recovery Fund Board (RRFB) was established in 1996 as a not-for-profit organization, operating at “arms-length” from government. It administers many important waste diversion programs such as the province’s bottle, tire and paint recycling programs.

Monday evening was the first public exhibition of the new lighting system at The Hall. The system was acquired almost totally through the efforts of Michael Fuller who, through his extensive contacts in the theatre community was able to locate some incredible bargains on equipment purchases and through a fund raising campaign with the members and friends of The Hall. Then with the assistance of Rob Bentley and Kerwin Davison, he spent hours rigging the gear into place. If that were not enough Michael and Rob then conducted two workshops for people interested in the technical and operational aspects of both the lighting and the new sound system. The workshops were very successful resulting in one student actually running both the lights and sound at Monday’s concert. Alex Odlin did a great job from the control booth (yet another new addition to The Hall this year)

Within hours of its completion, the ramp was put to good use for the Christmas concert, permitting three residents of Parrsboro who might otherwise not have been able, to attend the concert. We will be adding two reserved parking spaces in the driveway beside the ramp in the near future, which will permit at least two vehicles for those with disabilities to park right beside the ramp on occasions when events are being held at The Hall. Otherwise, they will be still be available for general parking.

Kerwin and Skip felt that David Beattie had to be brought in to assess the problem. David made a suggestion and will have to draw a new diagram. Kerwin is still waiting for this to show how they could do it without too much additional cost

Kerwin is going to go the plumbing and cannot do that till the `roughing in“ work is completed.
So things are in a bit of a hold, but how fortunate the Association is for the professionalism of our contractor, and the expertise of Kerwin and David, so generously volunteered to boost this project to completion.

More to follow as more becomes know, but the accessible washroom and ramp will get done.

Seabord Painting has only one small portion of the western wall remaining to finish up with the final coat of heritage colour. Completing this small portion will conclude this phase of the exterior paint project. Made possible with grants from the Muncipality of Cumberland County, generous donations from supporters of The Hall and hours of volunteer effort, planning is now under way to get estimates to complete the exterior painting of the rear and eastern side of the building.

Just compare the photo from 11 months ago to now. The efforts by all have made a significant change to the exterior of The Hall, making it a structure of which the community can once again be proud.

Next step?
Construction of a main floor accessible washroom, access ramp and two handicapped reserved parking spaces in the parking lot (for performance and event occasions) set to begin after the Thanksgiving weekend.

Also coming up in the near future: phase one of a new integrated sound system in the control booth with ceiling mounted speakers, completion of minor repairs to window and the roof of the Annex, acquisition of a modern professional podium to enhance presentations in the Bernie Burke Auditorium, acquistion of a new popcorn maker, replacement of the hot water heater with an energy efficient ‘on demand’ hot water system which will serve all hot water needs and changes to the interior plumbing to reduce the heat loss from old piping.

Anyone interested in participating or helping in any way in this exciting long term project to revitalize The Hall can become members by contacting member@thehall.ca; admin@thehall.ca; or call (902) 254 3674. Membership is still only $10 annually.
