The Parrsboro Culture and Wellness Centre – A facility for all groups and organizations.
The Parrsboro Band Hall has lived many lives. When the Handley-Page roared overhead the Hall was the Presbyterian Church. As our boys marched off to WWII it held the school auditorium. When the Kipawo floated back home, the building was home to the Parrsboro Citizens’ Band. Its past is woven through the fabric of our community. If you attended Parrsboro High during the thirties, forties or fifties you probably waltzed or jived at the dances or performed in school plays and concerts there. You most certainly will remember walking across the stage for your grading certificate. The girls took Domestic Science in the kitchen while boys learned Manual Training in the basement. For fourteen years the Hall was the home of Parrsboro’s Sea Cadet Corps. A hundred years earlier great grandparents may have married or been baptized under this same roof where their descendants tooted their first note with the band, snapped to attention with the Sea Cadets or jived to Brenda Lee at a high school sock hop.
Whether Church – School Auditorium – Band Hall – Sea Cadet centre, this building has seen much history and touched many lives. It is indeed part of our heritage and our culture. Concerned citizens have now banded together to give the building new life as:
The Parrsboro Cultural Center – A facility for all groups and organizations.
