Aviva Update
Thanks so much to all the great supporters that went the extra mile to help us get into the top twenty of our round. Unfortunately we needed to be in the top twenty of all three rounds of voting and we just didn’t have the time ( we only had nine days) to get the numbers up. The momentum everyone helped to build was tremendous and if we’d the same time frame as others I feel we would have been there for sure.
Take a look at some of the wonderful comments:
R Wheaton: Keep up the good work everyone!!!

Helen: In the two-and-a-half years since I moved to Parrsboro, I’ve been to at least 60 events & activities at the Band Hall. Volunteering with the Parrsboro Band Association has made me part of this community. I haven’t felt “from away” for a long time now.
November 24, 2009 @ 8:51 AM EST

muggins48: My family has a long history in Parrsboro and I would love to see the hall saved, I remember as a child running to the post office to beat my sister to get the mail there. I would love to see pins or buttons made with the save the hall and have them for sale as fund raisers , I would certainly buy one or more and wear them proudly. Maggie Phinney

valerie: Those walls hold decades of beauty. It has all the great stuff that makes a town tick. And with a bit of energy it could hold much more. I can’t wait to get back to Parrsboro and be a part of it all!
November 25, 2009 @ 8:33 PM EST
Riles: I learned to play trumpet at the Band Hall, joined the PCB, took part in all night rockathons and more in that place. A lot of good memories- that should be shared with generations to come. I think Bernie would approve of the efforts being put forth here!!!
November 25, 2009 @ 9:55 PM EST
Col. Bogey: Not unlike you Riley — I learned a lot of things in that Band Hall (and most of them had something to do with music)! Honestly, many of my formative years were spent there — much of the time spent learning to play the Baritone Horn and the rest of the time learning how to be part of a team and, more importantly, how to be a decent human being. Thanks Bernie
I am confident that if we band together (pardon the pun) we will be able to keep the Hall open and in doing so ensure that future generations get the same opportunities to learn about themselves and realize their potential.
November 25, 2009 @ 11:13 PM EST
lester.wheat: Alright voters!!!!!! I know we can do this…Let’s make Bernie proud!!!!!
November 26, 2009 @ 5:36 AM EST
mahfia: Yup – lots of memories at the band hall – my elem. & high school years would not have been the same without it! I learned to play clarinet and saxophone there… the band hall doubled as a multi-purpose space for us the year our gym was close due to vandalism – we held dances and assemblies there! I remember going to Christmas Tea & Sales and preforming and attending concerts. Not to mention it is a building with loads of history and lot of future potential! We can do this
Amherst got TSN and helped save the YMCA – Parrsboro can get Aviva to ” Save the Hall”
November 26, 2009 @ 6:49 AM EST
Reg Y: Lester , you read my mind. Bernie and Horace and many more would be proud of the efforts being taken .The hall has touched many of our lives, and there are a lot of memories in those walls. ” Get On Down” and vote friends.
November 26, 2009 @ 7:04 AM EST
Riles: I will shave my head and post a pic on Facebook if there are 1370 more votes accumulated in the next 3 days on behalf of the Parrsboro Band Hall!!
November 26, 2009 @ 7:10 AM EST
Michael F: It’s so wonderful to read these comments. It sure helps to know that we’re on the right road. We can do this and we will do this. It’s too important. If you want to make it happen in other ways get in touch. It’s a real community project and there’s a lot to do. email – chair@thehall.ca or just go to our website and connect with anyone in the organization. Thanks – keep voting- spread the word.
November 26, 2009 @ 8:25 AM EST
dongeddes: I was a member of the PCB when the hall was upstairs at the old firehall behind the drugstore and that wasn’t yesterday !!! lol. Brings back a lot of good times.
November 26, 2009 @ 8:51 AM EST
Paul Cram: The Parrsboro Citizen’s Band Hall is an artifact and a symbol of the spirit of community led by the Parrsboro Cirizen’s Band, the longest running community band in Canada still playing (estb.1890?) , This longevity is an amazing thread that should not be broken, because it is community music making that will save us in the end. The PCB’s survival and the expansion of its mandate to include a cultural centre relies on a workable facility. Vote!!
November 26, 2009 @ 10:02 AM EST
Jay: Getting closer!
November 26, 2009 @ 10:41 AM EST

Of course all of their 7 children and myself were all active members in this fantastic group. Lets get busy…spread the word to EVERYONE ….vote Vote VOTE!!!!!

November 27, 2009 @ 8:41 AM EST
danjomac: This historic landmark of a building must be saved and restored. As a boy growing up in Parrsboro in the 50’s and 60’s this was thee community center at the time. It was where we met and drilled for Sea Cadets. It was where the townspeople gathered to watch Eastern Canada’s version of the WWF – World Wrestling Federation. It is a place where you could go and watch country & western musical groups perform and watch stage productions of Christmas pageants. Parrsboro desparately needs this building as a truly dedicated central community center and it is my hope that the Save the Hall organization group are successful being awarded much needed funding in this unique promotion campaign.

November 29, 2009 @ 11:34 AM EST
Debbie: I’ve attended events at this hall. It is a piece of history that has made and is a part of Parrsboro, N.S. It holds many stories that should be told to those who live and visit the town. It has architectural importance. Keep this piece of history alive and well!
November 29, 2009 @ 11:44 AM EST
kristawellsc: I’ll match Riles (see message above) about shaving his head. If we make it into the top 20 I’ll shave mine too! It will be a symbolic representation of how we’ve all been pulling our hair out trying to find ways to make this dream happen. The Hall, renovated and revitalized will bring life to the community and the community to life!!
November 29, 2009 @ 11:50 AM EST
bandwagon: As a person growing up I was involved with the band. Bernie taught me alot about life and helped me be who I am today. And of what fun I had driving the bandwagon for our trips to parades and concerts. Keep on voting!!! Tell all your friends and even your enemies we need their support to make this happen.
November 29, 2009 @ 12:07 PM EST

Gleneida: Great to see so much support and so many votes in a short time…. Way to go!
November 29, 2009 @ 2:33 PM EST
diva: Brenda Wheaton Thanks so much for the unbelievable support in the last few days.Just think what we could have done if we had started in October like the other worthy projects in this competition. This will be such a wonderful addition to Parrsboro and area. Just think of the extra jobs it will bring to a small town like Parrsboro with a center that is open 12 months of the year. The restaurants, B & B’s, and motel will have to hire extra staff instead of closing for the winter!! We are in 19th place and we need to stay there. Anyone that can work a phone please do so. A couple of hundred more votes will help us to stay where we are!! Many,Many Thanks! Brenda Burke Wheaton
November 29, 2009 @ 4:45 PM EST
Riles: Amazed at the increased support even over the course of the last week!! The hall is such an integrated part of Parrsboro’s history, any effort to help in its restoration is a worthy attempt. This project is certainly “buzzworthy” – and would no doubt result in at least a band concert or two!!!
November 29, 2009 @ 5:12 PM EST
Langstroth: Go Gettum Friends! Bill
November 29, 2009 @ 6:18 PM EST

November 29, 2009 @ 6:26 PM EST
Riles: Well everyone, we did an excellent job at showing support- now the rest lies with the panel of judges. Almost 2000 votes! What a great effort! If nothing else, we raised further awareness for the Band Hall and gave opportunity for everyone to share their appreciation for one of Parrsboro’s testaments to community!!
November 29, 2009 @ 11:47 PM EST
