Parrsboro Band Association Offering New Music Program for Youth
Thanks to the generous financial support of the NS Department of Tourism and Culture’s Cultural Opportunities for Youth program, the Parrsboro Band Association is pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for local youth.
The goal of this initiative is to introduce the youth of Parrsboro and the surrounding communities to instrumental music.
Any youth from ages 13 to 25 living in the area from Apple River to Bass River to Athol and all points between are encouraged to take part. Instruction will be offered in a wide variety of instruments including (but not limited to)flute, tuba, saxophone, trumpet, violin and percussion. The instructor for the program is classically trained violinist Timi Levy who recently moved to Parrsboro from Calgary where she was working as a Professor of Music as well as performing with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. David Howe and Kyle Dinaut will assist in the instruction.
Formal lessons will be given incorporating both music theory and performance on instruments. Special presentations will take place over the course of the program, ranging from guest performances to listening sessions and discussion groups.
The program will take place at the Band Hall, 172 King St. in Parrsboro and will run from January 5th through March 31, 2009.
The cost to register is $25.00. Rental instruments initially will be provided at no cost to the students. Once the students are committed to their instruments it is expected that they will either purchase of lease from a reputable source directly on their own. In cases of financial hardship, the Band Association will continue to supply instruments.
Interested persons should call or email Kyle Dinaut at 254-2335 or kdinaut@kerrheating.com
